The unique nature of this 10km stretch of coast and its importance to the local community made it an ideal candidate for Hampshire County Council’s bid to the Department of Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) to host one of the 15 coastal pathfinders. The coastal pathfinder programme aims to test new and innovative approaches to planning and managing coastal change by improving understanding of how coastal communities can adapt to coastal change and by providing practical lessons and examples that can be shared with others. The project ran from December 2009 to Spring 2011 and the outputs can be viewed below.
